Every major element—from the specially rolled roof sheets to the handmade windows—has been chosen and assembled with longevity, practicality and craftsmanship in mind.

Exterior & structure

The main frame is fabricated from substantial steel angle and box section, with heavy‑duty axles supporting four original cast‑iron shepherd’s hut wheels. A traditional swingletree steering unit and solid drawbar preserve the hut’s working character while making positioning straightforward.
During construction, all steelwork was rubbed down and protected with multiple coats of primer and topcoat for long‑term durability. The principal floor area is laid in phenolic Buffalo Board with a long service‑life guarantee, and the walls use double‑sided GRP composite transport panels for strength and stability.
Overhead, specially rolled, galvanised and plastic‑coated corrugated steel sheets are fixed to rolled steel hoops, with generous overlaps and sealed joints for excellent weather resistance. The exterior is finished in specially selected Siberian larch tongue‑and‑groove boarding, creating a warm, timeless appearance supported by a modern, durable structure.

Handcrafted oak joinery
Every window and sill is handmade from mature English oak and fitted with sealed double‑glazed units. The assemblies sit in purpose‑made housings within the original steel frame, with silicone breaker strips to protect the joints. The entrance door is also made from mature English oak, giving the hut a cohesive, handcrafted finish and a reassuring sense of solidity.

Warm, characterful interior

Inside, the hut combines tactile natural materials with the practical specification you’d expect from a genuinely usable, self‑contained space. Oak, pine and marine‑grade plywood sit alongside discreet modern insulation, heating, plumbing and electrical systems.
The roof space and main living area are fully insulated with foil‑faced Celotex. The curved ceiling is lined in hand‑selected pine tongue‑and‑groove boards, while the walls are finished in marine‑grade plywood with oak panelling around the entrance for added richness and visual continuity.

Raised sleeping area

A raised sleeping area is defined by handcrafted English oak balustrades with twisted detailing and oak ball finials. The bed platform is formed in marine‑grade plywood over a solid timber framework, with a practical blanket box beneath providing integrated storage without compromising the traditional interior character.

Fitted oak kitchen
The fitted kitchen is constructed in English oak and centred around a ceramic Belfast sink with hot‑and‑cold tap. Appliances include an under‑counter fridge/freezer, under‑sink instant hot‑water supply, electric cooker with integral microwave and a freestanding electric induction hob—making the hut genuinely practical for longer stays or guest use.

Underfloor heating & tiled floors

A raised, fully insulated floor structure carries underfloor heating through the main living area and bathroom. The final finish is high‑quality ceramic tiles, adhesive and grout, giving a warm, easy‑to‑clean surface that feels solid underfoot and works beautifully with the hut’s traditional aesthetic.

Fully fitted shower room

The shower room follows the same robust, insulated construction and is ceramic‑tiled throughout, with a composite roof panel to the ceiling. It includes a ceramic shower tray, glass shower door and electric shower unit. A striking floral feature WC from The Remarkable Toilet Company, complete with mahogany seat, provides a memorable decorative focal point.

Electrical, plumbing & services
